The Psychological Services Clinic offers an array of mental health services to individuals, children, and families in eastern Connecticut. The Clinic is operated by the University of Connecticut as a training clinic for graduate students in Clinical Psychology. Services are provided by graduate students under the supervision of licensed clinical psychologists and faculty members in the department of Psychology. All contacts with the Clinic are completely confidential in accordance with Connecticut state law.
Short-term and longer term psychotherapy is available to children and adults, individuals, couples, and families. Adults may be seen individually or with a partner in marital or couples therapy. Adults may seek treatment for a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, stress related problems and others. Specialized expertise in the treatment of panic disorders and agoraphobia is also available.Children are often referred for behavioral difficulties including noncompliance, attentional problems and oppositional behavior, or for emotional difficulties such as anxiety or depression. Children with autism or developmental disabilities may also be referred for evaluation and/or treatment. Youngsters are seen individually or in family therapy sessions. Very young children may be seen in play therapy or in parent-child sessions. Parents may participate in parent training as well as family therapy. While treatment is tailored to fit the needs of each family or individual, it is expected that families will be involved in the treatment program when children are referred.
Psychological evaluations, including intellectual and personality assessments, are available for children from infancy through adolescence as well as adults. Individuals may be referred for the assessment of intelligence, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, attentional difficulties and emotional or behavioral problems. At the request of clients, clinicians will provide consultation to schools or other agencies regarding evaluation results or treatment recommendations.
The PSC charges for all services on a sliding fee scale. Individual fee agreements are negotiated between clients and clinicians. Payment is expected at the time of treatment or assessment sessions. There is no charge for the initial psychotherapy session. The Psychological Services Clinic is located on the second floor of the W.A. Bousfield Building on the campus of the University of Connecticut (across from the Dodd center). Parking may be available in the lot next to the building.
